Nowadays it seems to be unthinkable not to have a digital photo camera. But there are still people who still have not decided whether they want to keep using their analog device or invest in one of those new digital compact cameras of which some look like gadgets.
Fact is that the older analog cameras require more skills than the new more versatile devices. It is becoming more and more clear that the digital camera manufacturers are striving to correct unprofessional use from camera users with electronics and software.
It is easier to talk about the advantages of digital photography than the disadvantages:
Cheaper
The cost is lower, because you don’t need photo film anymore. Exposed film must be processed in a photo lab. Films are limited to a maximum of 36 images and they are not cheap. After that the photos must be printed on photo paper. To store photos on your digital camera, a memory card is required, but it is a one time investment. On the newest generation SD memory cards you can store a few hundred photos easily and it can be used repeatedly. Once the memory card is full, you can upload the photos to your computer’s hard drive or another external hard drive.
Easy
With the new compact digital photo cameras you can point and press the release button in automatic mode easily. Among the built-in automatic features there are autofocus, automatic flash and automatic exposure. The LCD screen on most of the digital photo cameras can be used to view the photos or to alter the settings of the camera.
Faster
You can watch the photos on the LCD screen immediately after taking them. If a photo seems to look blurry it can be deleted with the push of a button. To print the photos in a photo kiosk, you can take the memory card out of the camera. It takes only a few minutes to transfer the photos from the memory card to your computer’s hard drive.
Flexible
Once the images have been transferred to your computer, they can be edited with software if required. With photo editing software, bad lighting, contrast and colours can be corrected.
The resulting photos can be put onto a CD with burning software and be watched on a TV with the help of a DVD player. You can take them to the photo lab to have them printed on quality photo paper.
